Why the 5 steps of change management should never stop at #4

  1. Planning and preparation
  2. Communication
  3. Stakeholder engagement
  4. Training and development
  5. Monitoring and evaluation

A change project is never done even though the implementation stage may have been completed. But all too often I see ambitious change programmes deemed “delivered” or “completed” as soon as they’ve been implemented, overlooking the all-important post-implementation phase of monitoring results.

Change should always be a reiterative process; after all, if you don’t monitor and evaluate the outcome of the change initiative, how do you know that your investment will bring the results you’re aiming for?

The most successful change projects I’ve led have always followed through with monitoring and evaluation (and preferably measurement of results!) as this is where ROI can be clearly evidenced.
